This will let you in on how to spend a fun afternoon with your family if you’re here for the day or overnight!
The distance between Port Canaveral and New Smyrna averages about an hour each way. It’s best to get a rental so you can spend as much or little time exploring around each location in Central New Smyrna. Quiet beach town meets old Florida living as it is nestled in between National Parks and Nature Preserves, and a bustling Downtown filled with Taverns and Live Music, there’s something to see anywhere your adventure takes you.

New Smyrna Beach, Sand Dollar Charters Dolphin Tour
Coastal Living Made easy, Even on Vacation
I can’t say that I’ve lived here my entire life, but I’m proud to call myself a local to the area. I have lived here in the local area through Cape Canaveral, and down to Melbourne for about eight years. I’ve grown to call this my home, now I’ve finished school, started a family and we explore various areas on the weekends. It’s safe to say we know our way around. I’m here to share my favorite way to spend a few hours or an evening in New Smyrna Beach.
There’s something about the ability to live in an area that is truly always an Endless Summer. I’m from a small town in Mississippi and to have a new experience everyday is absolutely amazing. I discovered endless possibilities emerge when I can plan my days around being on the water or watching local wildlife at the Nature Preserve. My heart feels lighter and I can be in the moment focusing only on what’s in front of me.
Now, I want to share this experience with you sharing all of my favorites in New Smyrna Beach. It is more than just a place and businesses you can visit; it's a community where people can disconnect from the daily grind, connect with their surroundings, and discover the joy of Coastal living. Quiet beach towns, Dolphin Charters, Restaurants that serve all of your favorites and so many Family owned businesses that give you the hospitality you deserve.

Did you know the downstairs features a full Ice cream shop? Stop in for Lunch. The Conch Fritters are absolutely incredible!

Endless Summer
Catching the Waves at Flagler Avenue, and spending my evenings at Atlantic Plaza. They go above and beyond each time I need a Rental.

So many summers have been spent spending our day at the National Seashore. Not only is the beach quiet but you’ll rarely see large groups of tourists. Many times I’ve been, my family and I have the beach toourselves! You can find ticket information here.

A Coastal Experience that brings you community and connection.

Participate in the Art Stroll! The Hub on Canal becomes a Mecca of activity during this event. Housing the studio's of over 70 artists, a trip here gives you the opportunity to watch artists at work and engage with them. From painters and sculptors to jewelry makers and photographers, The Hub is an amazing collection of New Smyrna Beach's diverse artistic community all under one roof.
Iconic Eateries

Flagler Tavern, Treats on the Beach, Crabby’s Bar & Grill
While you’re down on Flagler Avenue, be sure to enjoy some of the iconic restaurants. From a quick treat to lunch for the family, there’s so many options within walking distance. My favorite place to stop for ice cream on a hot beach day would definitely be Treats on the Beach. They have a picnic style pavilion and the most delicious snow cones and giant pretzels! Want a Tavern Style eatery, you have to stop at Flagler Tavern for an amazing cocktail and Live music! Perhaps you’re in the mood for the freshest seafood, and amazing ocean views. You need to stop at Crabby’s Bar and Grill. While you’re there a must have, the Crablegs and the Conch fritters, are absolutely incredible. It reminds me of the Fritters I had while visiting the Bahamas, so delicious! No matter where you stop, you are in for a good time and good food. It’s what New Smyrna does. Many of the restaurants in the area are family owned and operated and they know how to keep everyone coming back.
Conservation in Action
Each time I spend in New Smyrna, I’m reminded to slow down and enjoy the serene moments that surround me. It’s a place that welcomes community, creation, and the preservation of Nature in the area. There are many conservation groups in the area that welcome visitors to explore the habitats, volunteer and even see the local wildlife by getting up close and personal! Exploring the beauty of the Indian River lagoon by a boat Tour or guided Kayak tour. Every month I spend my time educating myself, and volunteering with the Marine DiscoveryCenter.
“From action-packed Adventure Camps for kids, free monthly lectures, and indoor educational exhibits to eco-tours and conservation activities, there are opportunities for kids and adults of all ages to connect with nature and gain a better understanding of the diverse inhabitants of the Indian River Lagoon.”

Check out Dolphin Tours, Boat Charters available at Sand Dollar Charters. Bring your best pair of sunglasses and see how many dolphins you can spot while out on the water!
Every Summer, My family and I love to be out on the water. Our friends over at Sand Dollar Charters give us the ability to rent a boat or jump on a Dolphin tour through the river. We’ve seen incredible sunsets and dolphins swimming and jumping right next to our boat. They love to show off for a crowd, so you and your family will have an amazing time seeing them all.

New Smyrna Beach is a standout destination on Florida’s east coast, offering a relaxed atmosphere that feels serene and much less crowded than the more well known Beaches. The biggest advantage is the undisturbed, clean shoreline, perfect for sunbathing, beachcombing, or simply enjoying the sound of the waves. The area is especially popular among surfers thanks to its consistent breaks, making it one of the best surf spots, and locations for Shark sightings on the East Coast.
Beyond the beach itself, the town has a vibrant local culture. Flagler Avenue and Canal Street are lined with unique boutiques, art galleries, and locally owned restaurants that give the area a welcoming, small-town charm. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood, live music, and seasonal events that bring the community together.
Nature lovers will also find plenty to explore. Nearby parks and preserves offer opportunities for kayaking, birdwatching, and spotting dolphins or manatees in their natural habitat. You can also learn and get involved through the many conservation efforts of the Indian River Lagoon. This quiet Beach town makes it easy to unwind, whether you’re biking along scenic trails or watchinga stunning sunriseover the Atlantic.
New Smyrna Beach combines natural beauty, local character, and outdoor adventure, making it an ideal getaway for both relaxation and exploration.
